The Lieutenant: Morskor

The Lieutenant of Dol Guldur rides his fell beast Morskor at the beginning of the encounter.  Morskor is an Arch-Nemesis with 493k morale.  The Morskor stage begins when the entire raid enters the 31m radius rooftop octagon and ends when Morskor is reduced below 150k morale and the Lieutenant dismounts.

Positioning can be demonstrated before the encounter because it will keep resetting if there are a few people outside the gate.  Everyone should enter the gate at the same time when starting the encounter because the first 60sec cycle will begin timing as the first person enters but Morskor won't become attackable until after the last person enters.

This is how the House of Elders does the first part of the Lieutenant fight.

The 60 second cycle

The Morskor stage occurs in 60 second cycles of Morskor landing and putting down a purple damage cloud, attacking, greening out and returning to the center of the arena, flying around, and landing once again. These 60 second cycles repeat until Morskor is taken below 150k morale, at which point he will return to the center, a bright light will flash and text will signal the Lieutenant's dismount to begin the next stage. The ungrammatical text which signals the next stage is: “Very well then mortals, my pet has had toyed with you long enough… I shall handle you myself then foolish mortals. Come now, flee the terror of the shadow!” That's right, the Lieutenant says “my pet has had toyed with you”…

The Morskor stage needs to be accomplished rapidly because every 60 second cycle after the first one will see another purple damage cloud deposited in the octagon, and more than a few of these will pose large problems in the next stage.  Running through these clouds does 1k damage per second, so is possible, but ill-advised. Ranged damage is important to accomplish that task.

These are the base timings for the 60 second cycle of this stage. The timings are elastic but snap back: if Morskor is engaged in attacks, that can delay the next event in the cycle for a brief time, but the timing seems to catch-up by shortening or lengthening the 10s or so allotted to Morskor’s flights.

00:00 Morskor goes orange, selects a player, and says green eye text.
00:04 Green eye is visible on a player. Morskor does a proximity check and performs an attack.
00:07 Morskor chases the player with the green eye icon.

00:15 Morskor does a proximity check and performs an attack. This proximity check is at 00:15 if there
00:23 was no breath attack earlier and at 00:23 if there was.

00:30 Green eye disappears as Morskor stops, selects another player, and says green eye text.
00:34 Morskor chases the new green eye player.

00:45 Morskor greens out and moves to the center of the octagon.
00:50 Morskor flies into the air and searches for a clear spot to land.
00:57 Morskor lands and deposits a purple cloud of death.

01:00 Morskor goes orange, selects a player, and says green eye text. REPEAT from the top.

Morskor aggro and the green eye

Morskor does not attack the target at the top of his aggro list, he chases and attacks a random player who gets marked with a visible green eye icon. Morskor says green eye text when he selects a new player. Typical is “That’s it, run! My pet loves the sport!” Morskor also sometimes says “Look at them scramble my pet, feed on their flesh!” or “That one looks tasty, feast on their flesh!” The green eyes last for 30 seconds, so whoever is marked needs to announce that fact, and kite Morskor around the perimeter of the octagon.

The person with the green eye icon should STAY AWAY from Morskor. Each time this person gets hit by Morskor, Morskor gets healed for 10k morale.

Whoever is at the top of Morskor’s aggro list (Morskor’s aggro target, not the player with the green eye) should stay in the center of the octagon: this appears somewhat effective at getting the purple damage clouds deposited along the perimeter.

Morskor performs intermittent proximity checks and those determine which attacks he performs. If a proximity check shows players in melee range, Morskor will do a bite and/or a tail swipe. The bite is a melee attack and the tail swipe is an AoE which stuns and does damage. Any melee need to keep running past Morskor when he stops to do his proximity check to avoid the attacks. If there isn’t anyone in melee range on a proximity check, Morskor will do his breath attack. This is a directed cone AoE which does 1500 or so damage to anyone in it. Morskor gives plenty of warning by looking in the direction of the cone before breathing. Players should get out of the way of the cone rather than outrunning it – its range is about 20m.

Here is a graphic representation of how the player with the green eye icon should kite Morskor. Healers and ranged attackers should stay out of melee range and adjust their positions accordingly while melee need to chase and attack Morskor with discretion.
